Design And Development Of Virtual Library Based On Virtools

Application of virtual reality (VR) in education has been the focus of study, and more and more researchers are committing themselves to designing and developing the virtual reality systems to facilitate the instruction. The purpose of the thesis is to study the key technologies of building virtual library, by designing and developing virtual reality library based on Virtools. Learners, immersed in the virtual environment, can not only obtain learning materials, but also imagine that they are studying in a real library.In the thesis, we firstly make analysis of the current application of virtual reality in instruction and the current studies about Virtual Library System (VLS), domestic and international, from which the shortcomings of current VLS and the major functions of virtual reality library are summarized. On this basis, taking Meng Xiancheng Education Library as prototype, we design and build a 3D virtual library by Virtools, according to friendly interactivity rules. The thesis detailed the design of the whole structure of the VLS, functional modules. The system, connected with SQL Server, has the following emulational functions:Borrowing books, Three-dimensional presentation of books, Dialogues between distributed users and Video on Demand, etc. To optimize of the performance of the system, the thesis proposes the method of dynamically loading to manage model documents. Moreover, the thesis elaborates on the solutions and key technologies of implementing the above functions.The virtual library has friendly human-machine interfaces, and is real time interactive, immersive. In addition, due to the database, its functions are extensible, facilitating the data management. The development of the virtual library based on Virtools has certain contributions and referential values to the study of applying Virtools in developing education software. Meanwhile, great efforts and further research must be made to improve the virtual library.
