| 3D display (stereo display) is considered to be the next generation of display technique after High Definition display.3D display products have been flooding consumer electronics market since 2010. In consideration of that the fundamental purpose of display technique is to truly reproduce the scene in the graph and provide audiences with presence, it is inevitable that 3D display will become the domin display technique. In early years, the photography technique based on filmstrip was high-cost and complicated to be post producing, and on the other hand, display technique based on CRT always had color distortion and flicker problems, thus the development of 3D technique was hardly stagnant. Until recent years,3D technique has been going to be utility due to the rapid development of semiconductor technology and digital computing technique. Now we can easily find different brands of 3D productions from inland or outland (mainly 3D TV and monitor) on the market; otherwise, HDMI association has published the HDMI1.4a Specification on March 2010, which defines the 3D formats for HDMI devices. However, it is still far from popular for 3D display. Take 3D TV for instance, the critical issues that restrict its development are these three:1. High-price; 2. Rare 3D resources; 3. Health problems. And it is the critical point of this paper research that how to solve these three issues.This paper proposed a new low-cost 3D display solution based on DLP projector in contrast to the flat TVs on the market. It is a new algorithm based on sub-frame display feature of Diamond DMD that the left and right graphs are transmitted with time sharing operation, and co-working with active shutter glasses, it can get fine 3D display without flicker.At the beginning, the main 3D display techniques will be introduced, and in contrast to them, a new low-cost solution will be proposed; then the design of 3D video processor based on FPGA will be discussed in detail; finally the expectant functions which fully support HDMI1.4a specification will be realized through FPGA programming. The experimental results indicate that the 4 categories of 3D video with 8 kinds of formats including Frame Packing, Side-by-Side, Top-and-Bottom and Page Flipping can be processed and displayed on DMD optical engine in real time, and co-working with IR active shutter glasses, it is quite good at 3D display. |
