EPON (Ethernet-based Passive Optical Network) is a new access network technology in resent years, and access network is the key portion of bearing broadband business, which is meaningful for controllable multicast technique research in EPON environment.Nowadays optical network technology is extremely mature in the application of Backbone Network, whereas in the Access Network which definitely shares the same importance, its traditional technique cannot supply enough bandwidth to support with VoD, Interactions, Bidirectional video meeting, or some similar applications. These issues above lead the problem, the shortage of Access Network capability, much more remarkable than ever before, and 'the last mile' is still the bottleneck of the large capacity Backbone Network, and LAN. To provide enough bandwidth, it requires ISP (Internet Service Provider) to deploy new technology as soon as possible. EPON technique becomes the terminator of this puzzle, as it is low Ethernet cost, popular application, mature technique and easy management and upgrade. It can be said, EPON is competent to offer all the necessary of bandwidth, and combines both predominance, thus it attracts extensive attention and is favored by ISP. Meanwhile all the characteristics above offer with exceptional conditions to EPON bearing IPTV, such multi-cast service which needs to constraint data receivers.Research in this dissertation, based on practical internship experience in Shanghai Ocean Broadband Networks Ltd. EMS team, discussed relative technology of EPON systems and controllable multi-cast application: firstly, it gave a general introduction about the current and the newest technology in Access Network and multi-cast based on IP layer, then it analyzed the advantages of EPON network bearing multi-cast services and its progress in correlative fields at home and broad, followed by specific introduction of relative skills, system architecture, and some other background information in EPON. Sequentially it made a integrative anlysis about advantages and difficulties to relies controllable multicast in IP layer, with discussing how to relies it in EPON environment and solve security problem; afterwards using IPTV as an example, it expatiated the project, raised by XXXX, which is to carry out controllable multicast business in EPON environment by applying +MAC, in stead of accomplishing multicast control by encrypting and verifying data in IP layer, and then gave its corresponding solution; finally, it expatiated the design of the solution and relative modules realization in Application layer.In this dissertation controllable multicast strategy which validated by XXXXX in EPON environment, can be adopted to payment multicast service in EPON access network, as well as a feasible thought of new access network which bears controllable business.
