The substantial increasing in Internet Network transmission and processing performance makes the multimedia application such as video on demand, remote education, and network television to use more and more. And pointed to multipoint multicast technology which has high data, time delay and quality demand can be effectively used in the network bandwidth and improve the network resource utilization. Multicast is a technology that can send data to multiple receivers in an efficient and extendable way. Multicast source sends packets to a specific multicast group, and only the address which belongs to this multicast group can receives the packets. In applications in video, there is only one multicast source. The multiplying growth of the users will not upgrade the network bandwidth. Because no matter how many target addresses are, there is only one video steam in the bone network. It calls that"send once, broadcast in the group". Multicast technology improves the efficiency of data sending and reduces the possibilities of the traffic congestion in bone network. The important objective of the next generation of Internet is to have effectively support multimedia applications and the IP Multicast technology is a key technology which is indispensable for the next-generation Internet technology.In traditional access network, "the last mile" is still the bottleneck between the high performance backbone Network and WAN. High-bandwidth optical network technology has been mature in the backbone Network, but it can't provide enough bandwidth to support multicast operations such as network TV, interactive games. For its low-cost, high-speed and powerful advantages, EPON (Ethernet-based Passive Optical Network) will be popular in the future and also has the advantages of Ethernet such as low cost, general applications and easy management.This characters make EPON to be the best solution of access network scheme.Combined with the EPON team work in Fiber home Communications Internship, The author discusses the application of multicast services and the related technologies of EPON systems, and proposes solutions for multicast services which controlled in EPON environment. First, the article studies the EPON system's structure, application principle and related key technologies; then analyzes the IP Multicast system architecture, especially the development of the depth layer multicast IGMP Snooping and the IGMP Proxy; Second, the article discuss the existing programs that EPON using IGMP Snooping to carry multicast business, making comprehensive analysis to the limitations of the program and content security issues, and realizes the control of Multicast business applications with EPON, which through the application layer authentication and the improved MAC program; Finally, with the example of IPTV, the author designs the implementation procession of the improved program, and makes the testing and validation in laboratory. The existing users are free to use any unlimited way to receive multicast data stream, compared with this achievement, the results show that the program achieves the department of the multicast user in access devices, which provides a practical way of thinking for the management of next-generation access network provide by Multicast Service Control.
