Research Of Multicast Application On IPTV

IPTV is becoming a new hotspot technology in communications industry. However IPTV challenges network in existence in bandwidth, QoS and multicast etc. IP multicast is a TCP/IP network technology, allowing a host or several hosts (multicast source) to send packets to a subset of all hosts as a group transmission at one and the same time. Multicast is also one of available methods to save network bandwidth. Multicast technology is very available to transmitting BTV (Broadcast TV). Thus the network must support IP multicast, which puts forward new requirement of network layout and network equipments.This paper expatiated concept, theory and protocol of IP multicast technology by providing a Multicast PIM-SM experiment. The paper analyzed the concept and protocol of'managed multicast'and put it into use in MA5200G(one product of Huawei Company). Considering IPTV, the paper also analyzed several important questions in network multicast layout. At last, considering IPTV on Binhai Broadband Network, the paper put forward several advisements for ADSL network's multicast layout, authentication method and so on.
