The development of economics and the globalization of trade make cross-region communication increasingly frequent. Traditional communication methods, such as telephone, fax and Email can not satisfy people's daily demands. Multimedia conference system supports people in different places share audio, video and documents to achieve real-time communication. The maturity of Internet application and the wide deployment of broadband access facilitate the development of multimedia conference system. Enterprises adopt multimedia conference instead of traditional conference to enhance communication efficiency, save staff's time and reduce conference cost.Nowadays, multimedia conference system is mostly accessed via conference television and SIP terminal but lacks mobility support. The high-speed data transmission capacity of 3G and the portable, intelligent, personalized mobile terminals provide the possibility to achieve mobile multimedia conference. In this paper, we design and implement a multimedia conference mobile terminal system with which 3G mobile users can enjoy real-time and high-quality conference experience.The multimedia conference mobile terminal system is composed of six function modules. Conference Information Management supports Create Conference, View Conference, Edit Conference and Delete Conference functions. Both Actively Attending Conference and Passively Attending Conference provide voice conference and video conference capability. Conference Control controls conference process and achieves the cooperation between the multimedia conference mobile terminal and multimedia conference server. System Setting is used to set/reset system configuration. System Description displays the version, copyright and system help.At present, the mainstream mobile operating system includes Symbian, Android, IOS and Windows Mobile. Among them, Symbian holds nearly 40% of the market share and becomes one of the most popular. So, we developed a Symbian-based multimedia conference mobile terminal system to facilitate users to attend multimedia conference. If we implement the multimedia conference mobile terminal system on Android or IOS platform, the design idea also can be used, despite the UI view and coding method may be different.
