Biomedical instruments are the important tools in biological research and medical diagnosis. Researches on instruments employ collectively biology, medicine, electronics, computing and automation, which are playing more and more important roles. The cardiovascular disease is one of the common diseases. According to the statistic by world health organization, there are about 12 million people die from cardiovascular disease. Biomedical instruments are useful and necessary to monitor and medical diagnosis. This study reviews the international development trend in such field, introducing technologies of micro-electronics, signal processing, virtual reality etc into the development of instruments, which integrate biomedical instrumentation with the virtual reality technologies. The dissertation is composed of two parts, which are the hardware design of ECG acquisition system and software design based on Lab VIEW.According to analyze how ECG (Electrocardiogram) to appear, the standard of design was established by ECG character. The ECG acquisition system include primary signal amplification circuits, the secondary amplification circuits, low-pass filter, high-pass filter,50Hz trap circuits and ADC circuits. The thesis select ships, establish circuits and set the data of circuits. Then, the ECG acquisition system was simulated, which check the rationality of design. The software is based on the virtual device software LabVIEW from National Instrument Inc. The data communication between computer and the ECG acquisition and displaying the ECG were carried out by LabVIEW. This study accomplishes serial reading signals, resuming signals and showing signals, and achieves saving data to files, opening data from files and transmitting data by TCP/IP protocol.Research and development of virtual biomedical instruments are still at early stage, however, the study will impact positively on clinical diagnosis as well as basic medical science, which will finally reveal the future possibility of personal or family biomedical instrumentation and more remote diagnosis or medical treatment.
