With the development of network and economy, the companys have more and more subsystems, and the communication between companys is inevitable. We should solve an important question how we protect the security of the important data, and the MPLS VPN help companys bulid the LAN among the subsystems. Currently L2VPN is the popular solution, becasuse the L2VPN can make the customers who are detached become one LAN and the data is sent in the second layer of the network model. The customers only believe it is a network which exchanges the data in the second layer.A specification is designed for a simulator of layer 2 virtual private network (L2VPN), i.e. virtual private LAN service (VPLS) network, based on OPNET standard library. The project and technical backgrounds are introduced and the standard OPNET modules are investigated in this report. The simulator design includes the network model, the node models, the extension on standard Ethernet modules, the new processes of pseudowire (PW) and virtual switching instance (VSI), the traffic model, QoS configuration, the extension on the control plane and the management plane, and the interface for external routing.The project mainly includes the Network protocol module and automatic configuration of property model. The writer complete the processes which include the bridge process, 11m mac process, vsi process, pw process, ip config process, vpls config process and eth config process.
