Expressway communication system provides a means of communication for the traffic and road managers, but provides a transmission platform for charging systems, monitoring systems and management systems. To meet current and future business requirements, we must plan and build expressway communication system and make it fast, safe and efficient operation, meanwhile,we should let it develop toward intelligent, comprehensive and diversified .The building of the communication system of Jilin provincial expressway network not only to meet the demand of province's road network management and the growing construction of highway, better able to provide effective communication support network for charging across the whole province.The fundamental purpose is to improve the roads'management and security capabilities so as to enhance the economic and social benefits of province's road network. As the core of this thesis, the paper analyzes, researches and practically investigates for the composition of the communication systems of Jilin Provincial expressway,then gives several typical communication technologies, finally, given in detail the planning of different stage of the communication system.SDH,ATM,WDM,IP,ASON are applied to the communication field of expressway currently. SDH is a transmission and multiplexing technology which works in the physical layer, it is a optical transmission technology that is maturity and is widely used at home and abroad. SDH is compatible with PDH, it has a standard level of information structure, its network unit has a standard optical interface that make it can communicate in the light path, and is widely used to communication systems of single highway. Bue it has its own drawbacks,for instance,it is a simple point to point transmission,and it is a simple multiplexing process,a fixed multiplexing and low bandwidth utilization; ATM technology has the ability that support multi-service and multi-bit rate,meanwhile, it can effectively using the bandwidth,however,ATM has a poor compatibility with the existing protocols and making more complex configuration and maintenance, moreover,its hardware equipment is more expensive; ASON different from the traditional transmission technology, it not only have the function of traditional technology, but also make a dynamic and automatic transmission, and can exchange and establish a connection with others.ASON is a kind of optical networks which can directly provide services on-demand in the optical layer and it has a flexibility and high scalability. ASON technology combines the features of transmission technology and exchange of technology, it is compatible with SDH, MSTP mapping, multiplexing and interface technology when transmission data,and it inherited several advantages such as data transmission error-free, without delay, and a variety of service access and other advantages of the optical network;ASON can achieve intelligent control for network through OSPF and RSVP protocols and signaling in the aspect of control network. However, ASON technology will provide a high error rate due to manual configuration, and a larger delay that provide by business and a lower utilization of network resources.In view of advantages and disadvantages of several communication technology, and taking into account the development and demand for voice, data, image of communication services, resulting in a merging of these technologies, that is, a variety of overlapping models and integrated model like ATM OVER SDH,IP OVER ATM,IP OVER SDH,IPOVER WDM /OPTICAL and so on. The paper detailed analyzes and compares these technologies,then taking into account these technologies from technology,ecnomic and development, finally determine the next-generation synchronous digital technology and intelligent optical networking equipment as the backbone of the province's unified network transmission platform, meanwhile identifying the standardization and application of IP/SDH technology will be rapid development.The paper gives a planning that consider both the development needs of the communication system of expressway network now and future. The implementation of the planning will make the expressway is fully used, which has an important significance for the building and implementation of the communication system of Jilin provincial expressway.
