As a big grassland resources country, China has unparalleled advantages in resources and potential for developing animal husbandry. However, the grassland resources of China are far from being reasonable and efficient used and developed, and grassland animal husbandry development is still quite backward. Recently, under the growing population and livestock pressure, pastoral grassland degradation, desertification, salinization, rodent and pest become increasingly serious problems, and Environmental problems become prominent problem. A monitoring system is an urgent need to real-time, dynamic monitor and manages grassland.With the development of electronic technology, computer technology and communication technology, monitoring system have become increasingly widely used and provide a convenient way of monitoring to users. In recent years, the rapid development of network technology, particularly the development of wireless mobile networks, provide favorable conditions for the formation of large-scale remote monitoring system. And users can remotely monitor and manage target through the network. Network-based video surveillance system, which integrated semiconductor technology, image compression and network transmission in one, has an unparalleled advantage.This project proposes a new monitoring system implementation pastures through research of grassland monitoring system performance requirements analysis and feasibility. The design is divided into two modules:Zigbee wireless sensor module and 3G wireless network monitoring module. There are three sensor nodes in Zigbee wireless sensor module:the coordinator node, the routing nodes and terminal nodes. Each sensor node uses CC2430 chip, which dedicated to the Zigbee protocol. Coordinator node is responsible for collecting data from the entire network, passed to an external host through the serial port; routing node is responsible for routing to achieve, which have the function of terminal nodes; terminal nodes mainly to complete data collection and transmission.3G wireless network monitoring module using the latest 3G wireless networks to achieve pasture video surveillance. Video surveillance system consists of the terminal monitors, the transmission network and servers. Control terminal access the 3G mobile network through 3G router, and mobile networks via mobile network base station to join the network, and finally the Internet network transfer data to the server. Monitoring terminal is responsible for completing video collection, coding and transmission, and has a certain intelligence capabilities; server is responsible for receives the image data, decoding the image, and completing the video display and storage. Each control terminal use Samsung's ARM9 S3C2440 as a micro controller, and the star emblem (Z-Star) camera as a video capture tools.With the Linux drivers for video capture module VIDEO4LINUX2, this system implements the video capture in the embedded Linux platform. Video data compression and decompression are completed in the XVID video codec platform. The system uses JRTP protocol which specially designed for streaming media transmission for Video transmission and implements display and storage of video in the server side using OpenCV.
