Research On Over-the-air Update Technology In Wireless Sensor Network

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), a new kind of platform for catching the information, has been widely applied in many areas such as military battlefield and environment monitoring. WSN is usually located at the environment where the man can't reach. Besides, due to the great number of sensor nodes, the maintenance for the network and the update for the nodes become more difficult. The code of sensor nodes in the network can be updated by the over-the-air update technology, which is a kind of wireless update technology. This technology can improve the ability of controlling the network and reduce the working burden of maintenance. Therefore, it is of great significance to apply over-the-air update to WSN.In this thesis the application of over-the-air update technology in the WSN is mainly researched. Combined with the characteristics of WSN, the system of over-the-air update is designed in TinyOS and Mica2 hardware platform. And the analysis for the code distribution module is the key point. Through the comparison for the existing code distribution protocol, a new kind of distribution protocol is designed based on the MNP protocol. It is simulated in TOSSIM. The result shows that this protocol can distribute the new codes to the nodes in the whole network.
