Laser Gyro, which takes the optical resonator as a core componet, is an ideal device of strap down gyro inertial system. It is of very importance to measure the optical resonator loss due to the largely dependence of the performance and precision of Laser Gyro on the degree of optical resonator loss. Now more and more attention is paid to cavity ring-down method for its advantages in very low optical resonator loss measurement. The subject of this paper is just to design a laser gyro cavity loss measurement system based on the cavity ring-down method. The principles and methods of cavity ring-down method in optical resonator loss measurement are elaborated firstly, then the optical structure, the hardware circuits and software programs are designed, specifically including the optical design, the pattern matching of laser with resonator under test, photodetector, piezoelectric ceramic actuators, data acquisition circuit and software interface design etc. In addition, in-depth analysis of the impact of the photodetector bandwidth and fitting length on the measurement results is taken, and a complex exponential fitting model is established in this paper. with this system, the losses of a laser gyro cavity are measured, and the results are 737.35±6.17ppm and 532.7±5.18ppm.
