With the wide applications of lasers in many fields, measuring laser beam quality obtains intensive attentions.Several traditional methods of laser beam quality's evaluation were introduced and their shortcomings were pointed out based on laser beam's characteristics. To be the scientific and rational evaluation of beam quality standards, M2 factor was figured out with the second moment theory introduced, and at the same time, the beam parameter's formula was deduced. On the basis of the theory, a newly developed laser beam quality analysis system with CMOS detector was implemented which can capture laser beam pictures at different locations. Then, the parameters of laser beam quality can be acquired by computing and analyzing with the designed software system. Finally, the He-Ne laser experiments were carried out, and the results showed that the system can be used for laser beam quality evaluation.
