Laser beam quality is the core of modern laser manufacturing technology, it marks the development of the laser level, as well as it determines the scope of application of a laser. With the widening of the application of laser technology, how to effectively measure, describe and evaluate the quality of the laser beam to become a key issue. This article developed a beam quality testing instrument, the equipment is designed to address the wide 400-1700nm spectral range of laser stability to carry out effective analysis of the test. The evaluation of the laser beam quality is based on application for the antecedence, on the basis of the application, the paper analyzes the beam quality parameters and their evaluation, points out that the output of the laser beam to test the evaluation criteria more appropriate for the M2 factor. The measurement of the M2 factor can be attributed to the beam measurement. of the beam width at different locations. The discussion on the beam width measurement, paper proposed the measurement program which made power attenuation in combination of area array CCD detection, completed the selection of measurement system and preliminary study of the overall development of the program. On this basis, and then completed with the mechanical structure and optical design. Testing of laser, optical attenuation of the system without distortion, no lens aberrations. Mechanical structure is installed in a precision-guided screw device test platform, stepping motor control through the mirror group displacement to achieve CCD acquisition. Finally, the He-Ne laser experiments were measured, the results show that the design of the laser beam quality testing instrument can accurately test the laser-M2, and other parameters, which achieved the design objectives.
