With the presentation of the concept of "Smarter Planet" and "Sensing China", "the Internet of Things (IOT)", which is called the third wave of information industry, is in full swing after computer and internet. America took new energy and the internet of things as the two big keys of developing the economy in 2009. In our country, the internet of things is officially designated as one of national five new strategic industries and written in "Report on the Work of the Government". As an important component to prop the wireless sensor networks of the internet of things, ZigBee technology has extensively application prospect in energy, electron, medical treatment, industry and agriculture.The importance of the wireless sensor networks in the development of IOT is presented in this paper. The advantage of ZigBee in the short distance and low power wireless networks is highlighted through the comparision of the several common wireless communication methods. By means of studying the protocol, architecture and method of building network, a wireless communication network is designed on the basis of ZigBee. Taking the chip CC2430 of Chipcon corporation as the core, the circuits of sensor nodes, routing nodes and coordinator nodes in the network is constructed. The software design of the three section nodes is further completed by means of IAR development environment. Finally the connectivity of the wireless network and data transmission are experimentally verified, the results shows that the nodes in the network can constitute Ad hoc network, the communication situation of port to port is fine, the design has certain practical applicabilities.
