With the rapid development of wireless LAN technology, a large number of network access equipments are used for network construction, and WLAN hot spot access equipment, called AP(Access Point) for short, is a popular one. As more and more WLAN equipments added into internet, the higher reliability and real-time performance are required for network transmission. So it's a large challenge to make network managers have the ability to control and manage numerous WLAN equipments remotely. This thesis analyzes the requirements, designs and implements a network management system for independent WLAN equipments, based on the protocol of SNMP. Firstly, on the basis of ASN.1 language, it defines private MIBs to abstract and collect the management information of equipments; Secondly, based on Net-SNMP development kit, the thesis divides the system into four modules in the implementation part: The initialization function module is used to register mibs, the MIB access interface module provides agent with interfaces to access managed objects, the GET and SET module makes it possible to read management information from equipment, as well as set information into equipment; And the fault management module monitors the status of equipment, when an exception occurs, it sends trap to inform the manager. Finally, with the management software, MibBrowser, it tests the system, and the test results show that the stability and security of the system have met the requirements.
