The paper proposed an approach to the design of shoe last based on plantar pressure distribution with the shoe last parametric modeling technology. A shoe last was divided into two parts, the bottom and up surfaces, and the both were parametric reconstructed respectively. The MATLAB software was used for the plantar pressure data processing to get the maximun plantar pressure data sets. The scanned point cloud data of the shoe last were built into a last model in CAD, and the characteristic parameters of the last were extracted from the model. With reference to the national standards of shoes, relations were buile among the extracted parameters, and between the plantar pressure distribution and the curvature of the bottom surface of the shoe last. Parametric models of top and bottom surfaces of the last were built accordingly, and sewed up to build a whole parametric model of the shoe last. The model can be regenerated under the control of several main parameters and the plantar pressure distribution. Finally, it drew relevant conclusions, and pointed out the deficiency of the work and future research directions.
