National image has an effect on a country's international reputation and status, and impacts on the will of the people all over the world directly. In the backdrop of globalization continues to accelerate and China's comprehensive strength rapidly, China takes part in international affairs increasingly. Through news media reports to build a positive image of China and create a favorable international environment for China around the world, thus contribute to develop a better China, these are the fundamental duty of news media.China is one of the countries which are most seriously affected by natural disasters in the world, and at present, China is at a crucial stage of reform and development of a critical period, a variety of contradictions highlighted, if mismanaged, it is quite probably to lead to unexpected events. So whether it is from the natural point of view or from a social perspective, China has entered a period of high-risk emergencies. Because of its own characteristics, emergencies have great news value, when they happen, they can quickly spread worldwide and become the focuses of the international community's attention in today's information age. Well-reported emergencies have a more persuasive superior to conventional external propaganda, and they have great positive significance for a country to establish a positive image, on the contrary, they could only discredit the original image of the country and bring negative impact. Therefore, the study how to properly report emergencies and shape a positive image of China, let the world better understand China, has important practical significance and the guiding role.The thesis is divided into four parts. The first part elaborates on the basis of selection of this topic and the research purpose and significance of this topic, summarizes the research at home and abroad and introduces the main contents of this paper. The second part sorts out of the basic concepts and relevant contents. Due to their features such as expectation, uncertainties, destructiveness, focal spot and so on, accordingly, we set time-sensitive, fast response, seeking precise and clear up doubts for the requirements of emergencies reporting. In order to sort out the history of emergencies reporting, according to the social, political and economic situation since the founding in the specific environment and development trend of the media themselves, China's emergencies reporting can be summarized as four phases: the strict control of the early days, the political propaganda in the Great Leap Forward to the "Cultural Revolution" period, the explore from reform and opening to the late 20th century, breakthrough in the 21st century. According to the needs of topics, the paper has defined the concept "national image" from t media angle as: National image is an important national component of soft power, is refers to the international society makes on the relative stability of a country's overall assessment and evaluation according to a country which reports in the media image presented. The third part describes China's shortages in reporting incidents; answers the question that what kind of a country's image should be shaped in emergencies report. Problems are mainly in three aspects: incidents reported that too much emphasis on political, timeliness is not strong, the lack of humanistic care. Coverage in emergencies, media should strive to shape a people-oriented, honest, transparent and open, efficient and practical image of the country. The last part is to discuss the strategic issues on shaping the country's image in emergencies reporting. Papers range from the three aspects to explore how to use the emergencies reporting to create a favorable image of the country: practical to improve the press release system, in full accordance with Journalism and communication laws and efforts to improve external communication skills.Since the reform and opening up, China's emergencies reporting has been greatly improved, Progress is especially evident in recent years. However, it is no doubt that there are some satisfactory in national image construction on emergencies reporting. In this paper, I used literature research method, case analysis and qualitative analysis of research methods, to begin with the definition and analyze of basic concepts as the logical starting point, combine of the previous emergencies reporting cases, fully summed up the experiences and lessons learned in shaping the country's image, blend case studies with journalism, communication science, sociology, media studies, rhetorical theory and other related disciplines, in the end, to express my views and suggestions to create a favorable image of China in emergencies reporting .
