At present the follow-up platform is becoming smaller, lighter and better maneuverability, and the motion of the follow-up platform is being more complicated, so the combined follow-up platform can agree with this situation much better. Based on the satisfaction of the platform's performance requirements, how to make the combined follow-up platform lighter and smaller has become the key limit to the development of the platform. Under this background, it's significant that this paper optimize the structure of the platform to make it lighter and smaller.This paper takes the structural design of the combined follow-up platform as the study object. According to the performance index requirements and structural characters of the combined follow-up platform, the structure of the inside and outside platforms was analyzed. The analysis indicates that the kinematic relation of the inside platform and the outside platform is complicated. And the space of the inside platform is confined and the outside one is with a large motion field, which makes the requirement of the components' structure performance and positioning dimension much more higher, and make the optimization's constraint condition complex. Finally, object functions are set up with the target of the lightest quality and the minimum size by the premise of meeting the performance requirements of combined follow-up platform, the mathematical model of the overall structure is set up with the shape and position dimension of components as design variables.This paper optimizes the mechanism of the platform by the GA (genetic algorithm), and programs it by the C++ language. And then the overall machine's mathematical model is computed and solved by the optimization program of the real-coded modified and self-adaptive GA.Topology optimization design is made for the components reduced during the setting of mathematical model using the analysis software-AWE to find the reasonable topology structure.This paper puts forward layering optimization. The structure optimization of the combined follow-up platform was performed in the first layer. In the second layer the topology design of the key component part was optimized. And then the framework parameters are got and combined with the machine mathematical model to set up the restriction and to compute and solve the model.
