Pulse compression theory and ambiguity function are being played an important role in the design of radar system. Pulse compression can solve the problem of detection range and resolution in normal radar. Ambiguity function is the useful tool for design and analysis of radio signals. It can present the ability of range resolution and anti-jamming. There are two kinds of signals to be used in pulse compression. Linear frequency modulated signal is most to generate easily and takes the advantage of range resolution, so it is widely used in radar systems. Compared to linear frequency modulated signal, phase encoding signal has anti-jamming performance. Echo signal is the more important practical application of signal model. In this dissertation, the pulse compression signals are analyzed in different kinds of the signals waveform, such as linear frequency modulated signal, phase encoding signal and echo signal, based on the pulse compression theory and ambiguity function. Through simulating the ambiguity function of linear frequency modulated signal and phase encoding signal, the anti-jamming performance of those signals can be obtained. Then the waveform is simulated with point target echo signal, a number of target echo signals, and clutter echo. At last, the linear frequency modulated signal is generated using ADS software, and is used as the emission source to test the target in the distance range, comparing and analyzing the echo signal, then we can get the conclusion that pulse compression technology can detect the target echo submerged in noise.
