Most of present studies of Shengjing Times focus on Nakazima Nao, founder of this newspaper, and news reports of related historical events. Researchers barely pay attention to comments in Shengjing Times, and those do have an eye on them narrow their research on the damaging effect of comments from Japanese but completely ignore the patriotic speeches of Chinese people which obviously is the defect of the present studies. Through summary and induction of speeches during typical time, this dissertation reveals the mission of Shengjing Times and clears some complicated historical backgrounds. The first chapter concerned with the review of this research. After defining the meaning of comment and time limit of this study, the present author illustrate the close relationship between Shengjing Times and East Asia Common Culture Association by analysing the establishing backgrounds and personnel component of this newspaper. From the political views of the founder and speech writers, we can fairly say that differences in political viewpoints result from different nationalities exist from the very begin which is the root cause for various opinions in comments of Shingjing Times. The time around the "Mukden Incident"was the heyday of Shengjing Times' development. The relaxed editorial policy adopted made different views appear in this newspaper, but this policy behind hided a big conspiracy of Japanese editors: they wanted to improve the sales and influence of their newspaper so as to better propagate of their value system in the later time. The second chapter deals with the analysis of speech forms. Considering the influence of "Mukden Incident" and after description and evaluation of different speech forms, this paper concludes that Shengjing Times at that time showed rich speech forms and high writing skills.Chapter three is mainly about the content of the speeches which contains two parts. The first part details the content and main views of speeches during the time of "Mukden Incident" .There existed striking differences in the interpretation of this Incident between Chinese people and Japanese people. The present author not only notice the damaging effect of Japanese speeches, but also the eagerness and passion of Chinese people to save their endangered nation. The second part concerned with the evaluation of different thoughts existed in this newspaper. Except for political topics, speeches of Shengjing Times covered various topics like economy, society, education, science and so on. Through the summary and analysis of speeches on important social events and taking the influence of "Mukden Incident" into consideration, this dissertation concludes the thoughts and concepts of Shengjing Times. The conclusion part of this thesis is the summary of general language features of Shengjing Times' speeches before and after the "Mukden Incident". On the one hand, the verbal confrontation between Chinese and Japanese people which results from different national interests in this event is the most salient feature. The resistance of Chinese people showed in this newspaper was ignored by previous researchers. On the other hand, Shengjing Times is very inclusive and covers various kinds of topics which is the second feature of its speeches. The inclusiveness of this paper shows common interests of the journalists at that time which surpass political differences and many of their views still shed light to life today. There is still much to do in the study of non-political topics in Shengjing Times.
