The emergence of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) has caused widespread concern around the world, with the development of Internet of Things technology, the research of wireless sensor networks has become the hotspot. After years of development, there has been made tremendous development in hardware and software research for wireless sensor networks, and a series of representative nodes have been developed. However, these nodes also face some problems, such as expensive in price, poor commonality between nodes both in hardware and software, which have greatly affected the daily application and research of wireless sensor networks. Based on this background, the general ideas and methods of building a wireless sensor networks node are discussed in this thesis from two aspects: hardware and software.A new wireless sensor networks hareware platform based on C8051F340 micro-controller and one RF chip with completely independent intellectual property rights is designed, with the advangtage of low power consumption and cost. Upon this platform using TinyOS communication stack as the prototype, the design of hardware driver modules are advanced, which offered interfaces between the layers of software systems to achieve the transplantation of TinyOS protocol stack to the new platform. In the end of this thesis the node is tested with experimnets. The work in this thesis is a trial to build a wireless sensor networks platform based on the new RF chip, which would provide a solid foundation in theory and practice for the further research.
