With the information technology developed rapidly,equipments have been tending to miniaturization, lightweight, modularization, intelligence and complex, which requires more reliable and higher capable electronic devices. Nowadays, Manufacture Execute System (MES) is well used in the traditional manufacturing, but it has not been a application precedent for the Surface Mount Technology(SMT) industry, which seriously hampers the development of SMT.In the paper, based on the research of function and structure of MES,a MES for the SMT workshop is designed, which well overcomes the limitations of existing MES. The main work of the paper are as follows. Firstly, the functional requirements are analyzed, and the corresponding architecture structure design and module compartmentalization for MES are completed. The function of MES is also expanded. Secondly, the structures of data collection and transmission between workshop and upper organization, key regions, key devices are respectively researched and realized. Thirdly, an architecture of production administration system is researched and designed for shop arrangement optimization, management of production plan and data visualization, and materials management. A detailed design and realization have been done for data collection and shop arrangement optimization. In the paper, production administration system and shop arrangement optimization system have been tested to ensure their stability.The research results show that the system proposed in the paper reaches the expected effects in the rapid, multi-species and variable batch production of the electronic equipment, which manifests superiority of MES applied in SMT and thus enhances efficiency of production and reliability of productivity.
