Being a new educational model guided by modern pedagogical theory, Web-based education has been widely applied. But presently, there are two main catalogs of problems in Web-based instruction systems: First, pedagogical strategy[30] and navigation strategy are lack of adaptability and pertinency; Second, reusability and extensibility are weak. Therefore, it is necessary to improve these systems.In this paper, the present status of Web-based instruction systems are researched, throughwhich the individual web course development platform——Web-based learning navigationsystem is brought out. The platform adopts component structure. Teaching materials, students' behavior and teaching process are characterized by domain model, student model and pedagogical model, navigation model correspondingly. Web course developed by the platform can provide students with learning style, learning materials and navigation aid which fit their features and needs.The main work of this thesis is summarized as following:1. The design idea, functions, techniques and structures of several classical instruction systems are analyzed, based on which the new web course is conceived: to integrate the system control of an intelligent tutor, the self-control and guidance of an adaptive hypermedia educational system into web course[12][13].2. According to the former ideas, the Web-based learning navigation system and itscomponent model are advanced, and besides, four components of this system——studentmodel, domain model, pedagogical model[7][11] and navigation model are studied and perfected, of which, domain model and student model are representation of domain knowledge and students' existing knowledge, learning capability. These two models need to be instantiated while web course is being developed. Pedagogical model and navigation model, which depend on domain model and student model, are the key for realizing individual teaching process, and have been set as the system's internal mechanism.3. Key techniques about courseware generated dynamically and adaptive learning path[36] navigation, which are on the basis of the hierarchical structure of domain knowledge, curriculum sequencing technology and link sort technology[12], applying Topological Sort method for directed acycline graph[39], are explored.4. Employing object-oriented method, this platform is designed and implemented, which was taken to develop the web course of "computer basis". It can offer students two learningstyles——system control and self-control, dynamical hypermedia courseware and adaptivelearning path navigation.Web-based learning navigation system can support an available platform for developing individual web course. Compared with existing web courses, the individual strategy and structure of web course developed on this platform has been improved greatly. The research on individual strategy, realizing technology and system's structure has significant practice meaning for developing new Web-based instruction systems.
