The rapid development of the technology of image compression and network communication makes the Digital Vedio Monitoring System (DVMS) come to maximum excellence. As an important part of the DVMS, the network transmission is acted as transporting vedio monitoring information.The typical C/S module is adopted in the system. The server sends data, while the client receives it. Three modes are provided for transporting multimedia streams in the system. The first one is the unicast based on UDP, through which real-time streams are transported from one point to another.The second one is the multicast, through which real-time streams are transported from one point to others. RTP/RTCP is used in the two modes descripted above to transport the information of transmission so as to estimate network condition and to provide quality of service. The third one is the unicast based on TCP, through which the data without real-time transmission such as files are transported from one point to another, sometimes through which real-time streams can be also transported if network is under good condition. A message channel between server and client is buit to commuicate commands, config files and so on.In chapter two, the key technology involved in the design and the realization of the system have been discussed.The third part is my emphasis. The structure of the system and the realization of all the modules have been introduced. At the end of this part, the system has been tested. At last, some advices have been given to improve my system.
