| Recent years, the capabilities of computer and periphery are becoming more and more advanced but the price is becoming lower than before. The traditional monitoring system is making amelioration and updating, the application area of digital video monitoring system is becoming wider and wider, from the important safeguard department of finance, hotel and so on to factory, corporation and even home. Our task is to design a digital video monitoring system that applying to residential quarters.These days, most digital video monitoring systems in the market are the products with special hardware and software, they can realize multiple monitoring in one screen, but the price is much higer. There are other products that developer can use SDK offered by the hardware manufacturer, though the price is cheap, the development is more difficult, and the system development is depending on the hardware itself. Based on this actuality, through the analysis and study on the DirectShow technology offered by Microsoft which applying to video stream programming, a plan was put forward that using DirectShow technology, the system can not only realize being independent of hardware, make system supporting the digital video collecting equipments according with WDM that produced by any manufacturers, but also can realize the function of real-time displaying, snapping and playing back. Besides, through expanding correlative hardware and software programming, the system can realize multiple monitoring in one screen.After having understood the correlative technology and standard, selected the hardware devices and designed the structure of the system. Based on Windows OS, using the technology of VC++ , DirectShow, serial port communication and database, realized the software of the system, finallywith the hardware developed by others completed a digital video monitoring system that is independent of the types of video capture device, enhanced the universal capabilities, and extended the lifecycle of the system.
