| Since mid 1990s,the implement of the "Interconnection of Schools"project,the improvement of primary and high school information infrastructure and the implement of "the new curriculum reform"policy and "inquiry learning"bring the study of integrating technology into curriculum advantageous circumstances and great opportunities. Traditional curriculum modality,instruction mode and assessment mode face great challenge. The principle of primary and high school education is now transforming form traditional mode to informational mode. WebQuest is a web-based inquiry-orientated instruction mode,which is characterized by embodying the idea of integrating technology into curriculum,emphasizing teacher's guidance in inquiry process and good maneuverability etc. Learning Management System is a software platform that supports the whole procedure of web-based learning. Study on design and development of a LMS for WebQuest can help us to realize the interactions and relations between learners,instructors and LMS. It also provides a customizable,integrated platform for WebQuest that can both exert instructor's intelligence and take full advantage of information technology. This dissertation firstly studies the definition,classification,structure,design,implementation and practical problems of WebQuest. And then it makes thorough analysis of the connotation and theory foundation of WebQuest. A conclusion is got that WebQuest is a "bi-subject,web-based,inquiry-oriented"instruction mode. This conclusion is based on study on the four aspects of instruction mode: definition,structure,characteristics and function. In order to give appropriate description and classification,the writer studies current instruction mode classification standard and finds out that all of them use single dimensionality that can hardly give attention to both distinction and inclusion. From the view point of instruction structure,the writer proposes a three-dimensionality classification that includes main body of instruction,condition of instruction and procedure of instruction. All kinds of instruction modes have their positions in this three-dimensionality space. To make a further improvement of this conclusion , the writer also compares WebQuest with project learning and Subject-based Learning Website instruction mode and describes constructionism learning theory,the theory foundation of WebQuest.
