Now multimedia techniques have been widely used in education. Evidences are supporting multimedia technology pioneers' claims that more computer assisted instructional applications can positively influence students' learning processes and outcomes. Proponents of multimedia claim it can change the way we understand, think, learn, and work.Geographic information systems (GIS) provide a method and technology to analyze spatial data, or information about the Earth. GIS is effective in teaching spatial and temporal relationships.GIS is a curriculum in a few of middle schools abroad and with GIS students can finish homework or can expound some issues. Explanation about GIS in Geographic education prospect considers GIS as a branch of Geography curriculum. In education of our country, GIS is only college curriculum. At present there is not a related report about implementing the geographical courseware with GIS. Geographical courseware based on GIS can do what others can not effectively do, though GIS can not answer all questions. Some of numerous kinds of courseware adopted high-level techniques. On the contrary, educational result was worse because they did not follow educational principles. Recently, there has been an increase in the amount of multimedia research based on cognitive psychology. Research claims effective multimedia design should be grounded in cognitive psychology. The geographical courseware based on GIS, which has been finished under these psychology theories, offers coursewares in a new way. This paper describes an educational application of multimedia and GIS technologies for geography. This study integrates multimedia with GIS technology in developing computer-aided geographic courseware. Additionally, the system adapts to all kinds of teaching style and instructional methods. In the system students can construct maps using data from the database provided, and answer a series of questions. While working through the courseware, the analysis and skills required become progressively more advanced. And this courseware will make the learning of geography...
