With the development of the technology of embedded micro controller and field bus, the process control of modem train has developed from concentrated direct digital control system to distributed control system which base on network. Train Communication Network is a kind of data traffic network linking many kinds of on-board equipments, which is the core of train control system. In 1999, International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) adopted a new standard for the communication between on board devices. The standard named IEC-61375-1--Train Communication Network (TCN). TCN is divided into train level communication network -Wire Train Bus (WTB) which is used for connecting dynamically reorganizable vehicles and vehicle level communication network -Multiple Vehicle Bus (MVB) which is used for connecting fixed devices in a vehicle. MVB can still be used for train bus if the train is fixed organized.The Westen's TCN research goes far ahead of China. In China, only a few university and research lab adopt to TCN or related research. The MVB related technologies and products are monopolized by some foreign companies, which baffles the applications of MVB in our country. This situation did not profit our own products research and establishment of our own standard. For all of the reasons above, the author commit himself to MVB research, analyze and compare MVB to some other fieldbus on technical specification of application field. On the base of understanding the MVB communication mechanism, the author designed a Multifunction Vehicle Bus Controller (MVBC) using Verilog coding description and discussed the design idea and the methodology of every module in the MVBC according to the function requirement in detail. This design adopts Top-down EDA design flow. The simulation tool is VCS, the synthesis tool and programming tool is the ISE6.1. Now, coding design and simulation have passed through, the FPGA system test of board level is on the way. MVBC system is complex, with high qualification of reliability, security, time-critical, stability, life cycle.
