The Application And Implementation Of The Data Provider In Basic Medical Information Sharing System Based On OAI-PMH

The subject, named as "The Basic Medical Science Data Management and Sharing Service System", stems from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. It is one of the key projects of the Basic Condition Platform Construction of Medical and Health Technology which belongs to Science and Technology Ministry of the People's Republic of China. It is also an important component of the national scientific data sharing project. The main content of this subject is about the research and realization of the data providers for basic medical information sharing system. As a part of the scientific data sharing project and the basic condition platform of national science and technology, the sharing of basic medical science data must establish and follow the standard of the corresponding data building and the project practicing. As the data providers for scientific data sharing in the field of basic medicine, they are mainly responsible for the data compiling, standardized processing of shared resource in basic medicine field, realizing the recording, storing and releasing of data set metadata. In order to realize the metadata exchanging and sharing issued by preclinical medicine domain in a high degree, we must establish a uniform metadata standard of preclinical medicine. And we must follow the agreement that can operate with each other, is opened and universal in realizing interoperation of metadata. In the process of studying this subject, we have done some investigation and research on relevant metadata standards both at home and on abroad. Also we have investigated, analyzed and marked out the data resources of basic medical, confirmed the field of basic medical science data sharing resource, made the metadata sharing standard of basic medical science data. In addition, we have researched and analyzed the main present technologies of information sharing and metadata inter-operating, finally confirmed metadata storing, releasing and inter-operating based on OAI-PMH agreement. As a metadata gathering agreement, OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) agreement can realize digital resource unified searching among different databases, which is different from the way of searching existing now. It also provides an opener and simpler way to release and search the data resources of scientific data sharing. In this project, the issuing and inter-operating of preclinical medicine metadata follows the OAI-PMH agreement and XML rules. The realization of OAI-PMH data for the providers in preclinical medicine information sharing system is based on preclinical medicine metadata, at the same time, the establishment of the standard for formulation of preclinical medicine metadata is the foundation of preclinical medicine metadata information sharing system. The standard of preclinical medicine metadata is a collection of rules on how to describe the regular set of the data type in preclinical medical, including the recording rule on the semantic level and the stipulate on the grammar level. The stipulate on the grammar level includes: the meta-languages used to describe, the grammar used to define file types, the form of metadata with content and the description way of itself. The chief function of OAI-PMH data providers in preclinical medicine information sharing system is to realize storage management, the form converter of preclinical medicine metadata and DC (Dublin core metadata, Dublin Core), mutual method of the preclinical medicine metadata and the service provider of OAI-PMH in the preclinical medicine information sharing system based on the preclinical medicine metadata standard. Among them, the realization of preclinical medicine metadata is based on metadata standard which is the most popular in the world and the relative mature one in our country, and is formulated according to the data characteristic of preclinical medicine itself. The form converter realization of preclinical medicine metadata and DC is also the key content ofpreclinical medicine data sharing system. The mutual realization of the data providers and the service providers is the mutual realization between six verbs of OAI-PMH and storages. In the course of the research and development about the whole project, we have realized the data standard of basic medical college first, then we have realized some contents of OAI-PMH agreement --storage, form conversion of metadata, and the mutual of data providers and service providers on this basis. Certainly this is only a small part of this project. In the whole project "The Basic Condition Platform Construction of the Medical and Health Technology", the realization of the project "the service system of basic medical science data management and sharing" must also be considered the integration with other sub projects, that whether the metadata can operate with each other well or not is also a key to the success of this platform. How to unite the metadata issuing of the whole platform with OAI-PMH agreement is also the emphasis and difficulty of the future work. The project "the service system of basic medical science data management and sharing" itself is a platform which is constructed differently of distribution information sharing, OAI-PMH agreement has offered a realizing mechanism for mutually operation of information in the platform. OAI-PMH is a mutually operation mechanism that is lightweight and low threshold, it is easier to realize, however, it has some disadvantages which need to be improved. All of them need to be researched more deeply and practiced in the field in future. During the whole project research, the author participated in establishing the basic medicine metadata standard and realization of data providers in the service system of basic medical science data management and sharing.
