A data warehouse is a subject-oriented, integrated,time-variant and nonvolatile collection of data in support of management'decision making process . Data warehousing is not a new platform , but a new concept . Meanwhile it is not a product, but a solution . It provides decision-maker a single analysis environment , in which information from multiple heterogeneous sources is transformed and integrated in advance and stored in a warehouse. A traditional database system is processing-oriented and is designed based-on business processes and system functions,including a great deal of current detail data.0n the other hand,Data warehousing is analysis-oriented,including high-quality, clean,integrated data.Operational databases provide data warehouse a lot of raw data,while data warehousing is established on the basis of databases.Consequently data warehousing is not an alternative to the database system.Each of them has different functions and completes different tasks. On-line analytical processing(OLAP)is a classical application of data warehousing for the interactive analysis of multidimensional data of varied granularities. Moreover, OLAP supports some multidimensional analytical operations such as slice,dice,roll-up,drill-down and rotate,which provide users with the flexibility to view data from different perspectives. The core of management is to "make policy". The process of global economic integration and the development of information technology, has dispelled a lot of circulation barriers. Enterprises face more complicated living environment than ever, it is more difficult to form and safeguard its competition barrier. Pressures of the competition all have a higher demand to the quality, speed that enterprises make decision . DSS can offer various kinds of decision information and the solutions of a lot of commercial problems for enterprise as a kind of new developing information technology, thus it is engaged in the information processing of the low level and burden analysed to lighten a administrator, make them absorb in needing work of the decision intelligence and experience most, so has improved the quality and efficiency of decision. The concept of DSS has been proposed for over 20 years, with the development in such relevant technology as decision theory , information technology , technology of the database , office automation , expert system ,etc., DSS makes considerable progress, gets application in a lot of fields. DSS has already become an indispensable modernized support tool in a lot of trade management and administration . General decision always with some dimension necessary data (every one-dimensional representative one specific observation visual angle in datum, for instance area, time ,etc.) and different ranks (like the department , unit , area and country ) are involved in statistics and calculation. The multidimensional data analysis taking multidimensional data as the core is a main content of the decision, the multidimensional characteristic of the data warehouse meets the demand of analysis on data of DSS, and the data which overcome the database are with bad sense of organization, shortcoming of low utilization ratio. The database does not have a multidimensional characteristic, but the foundation that DW structures. Has already accumulated a large number of data in the application for many years of database , and the quantity and scale of the database are also running up and expanding at present, question that " the data are abundant , knowledge is poor " that thus appear . So, it has already been the task of top priority to take useful information out from the huge database, if succeeding in, should set up the data warehouse to collect first while carrying on information. The use for data of DSS is not structurization, inquire about and operate thousands of lines of data that will be involved more than one hundred forms once of it, it will influence systematic performance seriously that the complicated form is joined, and users only just look for relevant data while analysing, find out the condition is at random , so the analytical capacity of data based on DSS of the affairs type database is very limited. At present, based on DSS of the data warehouse decision technology including on-line to analyse and process and datum are excavated (Data Mining), offer the ability of the data for the fact that analyse and process and excavate with the data on-line directly in the data warehouse in DSS environment.
