With the rapid development of network hardware and software, the embedded system has been widely applied to all the fields of work and life. Embedded equipments that meet a certain special function become a leading factor in the pervasive computing era. As network technologies develop at a tremendous pace, the network has extended to the embedded field. Various embedded equipments can be connected to Internet, which compose the embedded network. Meanwhile, the embedded network offers a new challenge to network technologies. The issue of the embedded network management is one of the key technologies that embedded network technologies must resolve.An embedded equipment must provide a collection of its resources managed if it needs managing. During the developing course of network management, Simple Network Management Protocol becomes de facto industrial standard because of its simplicity, flexibility, easy to expand and implement in large-scale network. Management Infonnation Base is a virtual base used to store managed attributes of equipments. The network manager fulfills network management of equipments through the access of MIB.Aimed at the developing prospect of the embedded network and the extensive application of network management based SNMP, this thesis simply analyzes the embedded network management and focuses on MIB and some key technologies in the agent of embedded network management.After the introduction of MIB, XML and its application in network management, the creating, parsing and value storing of MIB are respectively discussed in detail combined with characteristics of embedded equipments. In view of the realtime demand of embedded network management, an improved idea is proposed to access managed objects more efficiently. Besides, An automatic generating tool of MIB is provided to define private MIB of equipments for theconvenience of manufacturers, shielding relative restrictions. Finally, a thorough discussion of a key technology while parsing, the conversion of MIB format from ASN.l to XML, is given to resolve the coexisting problem of these two formats and provide a uniform access interface.
