It has more than 30 years since smart card was invented. It is used more and more popularly all over the world, and it is getting into every domain around us. "Industry combined one card with multiple uses" is the important direction of the development of the high-performance smart card in our country. It is very significant to quicken the informational industrialization of our national economy, improve the automatic and scientific management level, improve people's living and working conditions, enhance the strength of our national economy. This article discusses the hardware architecture of the smart card in theory and makes a summary of kinds of design methods, list their advantage and disadvantage, to give a reference for design, and to be referenced for other researchers. At the same time of theory study, the practice is carried though. This arcticle introduce the development process of an enhanced smart card in detail. The chip is implemented with FLASH memory, contributing flexibility and expansibility, moreover, the hardware RSA coprocessor also was integrated in the smart card which ehance the security of data communication of the smart card. The innovation is that it is based upon the particularity of high-performance smart card, taking into account the deficiency of the existing architecture, making use of experience in computer domain selectively and gives out a new solution. In conclusion, for the development of the smart card, we should pay more attention to application, avoiding to be constrained into the existing architecture and arranging design rationally, and then we can fulfill the demand of the performance and security of the new architecture.
