Research On Serial Bus Communication Protocol And USB Application

Serial Bus has been widely used in all sorts of fields. Because of its fast, isochronism, low cost, plug and play (PnP) function, ease of use and expandability, Universal Serial Bus (USB) that came forth in 1994, has been widely used in computer and system on chip (SOC) field.Firstly, the serial bus and its transfer protocol are summarized. Then, based on this, USB protocol is discussed and analyzed, some of them, such as: field, packet, data transfer transaction, data toggle synchronization and error detection are designed and realized according to the protocol requirement. Last, according to the USB 1.1 specification, the USB device controller is designed. And the front-end and back-end simulation, synthesis and place&route steps of the USB device controller are used with Modelsim, Synplify and Quartus II software. The key point of this dissertation is USB protocol layer design and realization.In conclusion, this paper realized the USB protocol layer. And the design of USB device controller is verified under FPGA flow. At last the communication between LED and host is realized.
