As the rapidly popularization of computer networks, how to implement an effective network management has become more and more important on research topics. Configuration management, one of the five main functions of network management, is the most complicated and difficult to realization among others. In the traditional network environment, network managers just configure all kinds of network parameters by hand or aim at some special devices to implement configuration, all of these are realized by hand. Active network architecture provides some essential foundations for intelligent network management, and also makes possibility of improving the performance of configuration management. Applying policy-based management into active nodes configuration can gain effective, flexible and dynamic management. The works we have done in this dissertation are as follow:Firstly, the active network architecture and network management technology were analyzed and studied. Secondly, an active node configuration with policy-based management technology was discussed, and a policy-based active configuration model was designed. Thirdly, some core issues in this model were discussed in detail, such as safely access to policy repository, the execution of policy and the efficiency of the system. Lastly, a simulative prototype system was reailized in Java language, based on the LAN environment, Linux operating system, ASP EE and SENCOMM. The system can work in simulative network environment, collect active nodes' configuring information and configure some kinds of those parameters. The system can also improve the efficiency of active nodes' configuration management, realize security accession and reduce work intensity of managers.
