Civil Society And Mass Communication

Reviewing more than 20 years since reform and opening-up, the society of China is developing from Political society to civil society. Government's function begins to change. The civil society separates gradually from the political power, and has shown enormous energy. The political pattern of strong government and weak society begins to change. Under such a background, the mass communication, as the important platform of social information communication, is changing silently, and promoting the development. This research is to carry on the relations between the mass communication and civil society in the course of this historical transition.This text carries on macroscopic analysis to mass communication in civil society firstly, and compares the relations among the three between news media, state power and citizen (civil society ) under political society and civil society. And probe into the micro-analysis to mass communication in civil society from the aspects of media audience's view, function, economic source, media opinion and media control etc..Civil society and mass communication interacts each other. The functions of media to civil society include: the media cultivates citizen's awareness of the right and obligation; The media protects citizen's right; The media guides citizen's opinion; The media speaks for citizen; The media supervises citizen. The functions of civil society to media include: Civil society supervises media; Civil society supervises and protects the reporter; Citizen's opinion influences the media opinion; Citizen's society supports the media financially.Especially under the background of the network, the phenomenon of the online civil society appears. This text analyzes the characters of public space under the traditional media and network media, and points out that the appearance of the network is promoting the forming and perfection of the public space of our country. The end of the text points out the restriction factors in the construction of public space in our country.
