Scene simulation, as a combination of Virtual Reality (VR) and simulation technology, is the most excited area of Virtual Prototyping, in which the advantages of VR and simulation technology are exerted thoroughly. With the rapid development and mutual infiltration among computer simulation technology, virtual reality and network technology, there are new wider scopes of development for scene simulation technology. Distributed Scene Simulation, as a new simulation technology, offers a very effective, economical means or approach for the research and development of weapon systems, tactics exercise and training. It has been proved to be useful in shortening the develop time-cycle, improving the quality and lowering the cost of research, development and test. The major content and innovation of the dissertation can be concluded as following four aspects:1. Based on a thorough analysis of the requirements of the scene simulation application, a method of describing virtual environment which is named Scene Space is presented, and its formalism is expounded. Then a common, extendable virtual environment architecture-Scene Space Architecture is brought forward to represent the relationship among the elements of Scene Space.2. Based on the comparison and analysis of typical distributed scene simulation framework abroad, a corresponding distributed scene simulation framework based on the theory of SSA is given in detail, which can support virtual experimentation of weapon systems.3. Some key technology problems in distributed scene simulation, such as component based HLA development, the behavior modeling of virtual entity, and the multi-channel rendering, are discussed, and the corresponding solutions are given.4. Based on the theories above, a distributed scene simulation system-SimStealth, which supporting virtual experimentation of weapon systems is put forward, and a successful implementation is described detailed. The application in practices has proved that the rationality, applicability, extendibility of the theories, methods, and architecture.
