The design of the embedded system is advancing towards System-on-a Chip, the System on a Programmable Chip based on FPGA attracts designers' attention by its characteristics, such as flexibility, programmable software and hardware , and so on, while the study and the application in the field are little in China, thus the research on it is very important.In order to fulfill the application for high speed processing and complicated controlling in image processing system, we study up on SOPC in the paper and implement an embedded system in FPGA by using microprocessor IP core to combine with hardware algorithm. We also study the design for microprocessor IP core.First, we discuss the application and development trend of the embedded system and the specification of SoC and SOPC, analyze the technology of design for reuse and SOC, introduce the basic principles and the coding guidelines about design for reuse. Secondly, we lay emphasis on architecture of an embedded microprocessor IP-MicroBlaze, and use it to implement an embedded system for the image processing application in FPGA. Finally, based on the characteristics of FPGA architecture, we design and implement a high-speed microprocessor IP core with little resources occupied and simple architecture.
