This article is based on―GB18240.7Tax Control Merchandise AutomatedManagement System‖which is currently under the author’s lab’s development,using the project as its research background. It mainly researches and discusses amethod of design and application of embedded system based on FPGA technology,using The Network Tax Controller system as an example. This article is part of―GB18240.7Tax Control Merchandise Automated Management System‖, whosepurpose is to provide improvement and enhancement for taxation collection anddeclaration of the domestic shopping centers and supermarkets. Network Controllerwill keep watch over each transaction, then transfer the data to a remote Tax ControlServer in order to improve the tax control mechanism and promote themodernization of the tax control methods.This article introduces a feasible and reliable solution for an embedded taxcontroller system based on Altera SOPC. Altera SOPC uses FPGA as its hardwareplatform. With the introduction to Nios II’s architecture, the whole process of thebuilding of the SOPC platform is introduced. Along with the introduction of themethod for constructing the crossing compilation environment and applicationdeveloping in Linux, it introduced the theories of building of μClinux kernel imageand Bootloader. Then we design and introduce a power-off safety module for theNetwork Tax Controller in the article. In the end, it discusses about severalimprovement we have already accomplished or currently being planned.The solution introduced in this article can reduce the complexity ofdevelopment enormously, and by eliminating the need for complex ASIC design, itwill also help further reduce product development cycles. It’s not only verymeaningful to the building and improvement of modernlization of taxationcollection and declaration of the domestic shopping centers and supermarkets, butalso the methods and development flows may have some inspirement to otherdevelopment or research projects in the area.
