Autostereoscopic display technique is focused in this paper. Autostereoscopic display is one extremely significant class of three-dimensional displays and chiefly needs integration of optics, electronics and computer. It can present each viewer at least a pair of stereoscopic three-dimensional images without special glasses. The basic principle is that each eye of the viewer must correspondingly see one of stereoscopic image pair rendered on the screen according to the position of the viewer. Then through the fusion of his or her brain the viewer perceive depth of the displayed scene.In this paper, current autostereoscopic display techniques are analyzed. A new method for autostereoscopic display is proposed, and based on it a novel refractive, simple backlight using transparent display screen, like LCD panel, is designed to implement autostereoscopic display, and it is simulated successfully. An autostereoscopic display system based on parallax barrier is introduced. The concept and expression of stereo contrast ratio in autostereoscopic display evaluating is proposed. A method of appraising the performance of autostereoscopic display using CCD cams is proposed, and the results of the experiments demonstrate that the method proposed in this paper can well inspect the stereo contrast ratio and view zones of autostereoscopic display.
