Three dimensional display can present the "real" world for people. It has been animportant trend of display field. On the other hand, Liquid crystal lens has attractedmany interests due to its great advantages, like high transmittance and electricallycontrollable property. However, liquid crystal lens still has several problems to besolved, such as small refractive index, slow response speed and low resolution and soon. Our paper proposed many methods to improve the performance of liquid crystallens and make it apply to more three dimensional display systems.Firstly, to improve the refractive index distributions of liquid crystal lens, a kindof liquid crystal lens structure using multi-electrode driving method is presented. Inaddition, to meet the demand of fast-response liquid crystal lens, a new fabricationmethod using holographic exposure for switchable blue phase liquid crystal/polymerFresnel lens was demonstrated. This new method can reduce the cost and difficultyduring the fabrication. Then a novel technology using dynamic liquid crystal lensarray is introduced to realize the high resolution three dimensional display. At thesame time, a new impulsive backlight driving is presented to reduce the dynamiccrosstalk in this method. At last, we propose a new structure which has two layer ofmutually perpendicular electrodes using blue phase liquid crystal for application inportable display terminal. This kind of three dimensional display system can work inboth landscape and portrait mode.
