Much attention has been focused in recent years on the research of structural health monitoring technology since it provides a reliable, efficient and economical approach to increase the safety and reduce the maintenance costs of engineering structures. Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a special kind of sensor network which is a rapidly growing discipline with new technologies emerging, In this paper, the wireless sensor network is developed based on the Berkeley Mote Mica wireless sensor platform. Firstly, the concept of Structural health monitoring was introduced. Secondly, the research on the wireless sensor network based on the wireless sensor platform was discussed in detail and implemented. Finally, a composite structural health monitoring system based on the Mica wireless platform is developed to implement the loading localization. Because a structural health monitoring system for composite structures has its special requirement, many wireless sensors should be added into the WSN in the future work.
