SDR (software defined radio) has got quiet great evolution since Jeo Mitola raised it in 1992, which is based on the theory of modern communication, with the core of digital signal processing, and supported by the technique of micro-electronic. SDR has been improved in recent years, and has caught the sight of military communication, personal mobile communication (PMC), micro-electronic, computers, and other electronic fields. SDR is generally thought to greatly change the radio communication, and even the whole radio field. And SDR will promote the quick development of the electronic information technique, and finally it can form a great SDR market around the world. SDR will bring us great economic benefits, and improve the society and the related techniques.SDR broke the limited design that the traditional radio has single function with badly expansibility hardware, and emphasis that it regards the simplest developable hardware as general platform. It adopts the new thinking way to implement various radio functions by upgradeable and re-configurable software. User can fulfill the different requirements of different time and different conditions with different applied software, but by the same hardware platform. Investors can meet the new demands of buyers and the market, and suit the developing techniques, by designing new applied software.The concept of SDR has been applied in PMC. The main object of the IMT-2000 system drawn up by ITU is to establish a seamless third generation mobile communication standard with the function of global roaming across any systems and any networks. Software defined radio technique migrates the traditional analog and digital radio platforms to flexible software radio platforms that can support multiple communication standards. In this thesis, I design a hardware platform with IF digital receiver that suited for the standard of current communication system, which based on the concept of software defined radio.The frame of the thesis is:Chapter 1 is summarization. It introduces the basic concept of SDR and themotivation, significance, and target of the research.Chapter 2 is the basic theory of SDR receiver. It presents the related fundamentaltheory of the SDR receiver, including the signal sampling theorem, signal processingwith multiple speed, etc. And the signal sampling theory is the basic theory for SDR.Chapter 3 introduces the mathematic model and the signal demodulation model ofSDR receiver.Chapter 4 introduces the hardware implement of the SDR receiver, including the frontcircuit, A/D, digital down converter, and the digital signal processor, etc.Chapter 5 presents the conclusion of the thesis.
