Software-defined Radio is a concept in the field of wireless communication in recent years. It is a new and significant technology after the revolution from analog technology to digital technology. It is characterized in using the software program to complete the function of standardized, modular hardware, and achieving various types of radio communication systems by software loading. This technology has the advantages of flexibility, openness and compatibility, which is beneficial for the update of hardware and system's compatibility.This paper introduced the development, background, structure, key technology, application and development prospects of the Software-defined Radio (SDR). It is focus on the realization of software-defined Radio IF Receiver, and designed two modules for SDR IF Receiver, which are IF signal processing module and base-band signal processing module. Then introduce the theories for hardware and chip selecting. According to the theories, the IF signal processing module chooses AD6654 to complete IF signal digital processing and digital down conversion; and the base-band signal processing module chooses TMS320C5509 to complete baseband signal's demodulation. This paper introduces the sampling theorem, digital down conversion, multi-speed signal processing and quadrature demodulation, etc. The design completes the signal processing of wcdma and td-scdma system, and the completion of quadrature demodulation in DSP.This design of software-defined Radio IF receiver has the advantages of great versatility and flexibility, can reflect the basic idea of software-defined radio, and provides an ideal platform for the further study and a realization of software-defined radio.
