Based on the background of gas meter remote repairing, this paper puts forward a solution way-the embedded technology based on GPRS communication. This paper discusses design and implementation of embedded handhold terminal as well as technology involved. This paper focus on the system design of the embedded handhold, addresses the hardware design and software design in detail. By reasonable system architecture design, i.e, the appropriate partition of hardware/software, the preserving of standard data gathering interface, especially the well-designed software architecture, other service can be conveniently deployed on this handhold terminal, thus our reseach work expands the application area of embedded handhold terminal.This paper is devided into seven chapters.The first chapter introduces the research background, the research purpose and research content. The current technology is analyzed, the research plan and technology ways followed are given as well.The second chapter introduces the GPRS communication technology briefly, and alanalizes the GPRS data transferring platform, also this chapter discusses the way to build the application network of GPRS and the method to implement the GPRS communication in a embedded system.In the third chapter, the design method of embedded system is addressed in detail. In this chapter, the partition between hardware and software is discussed, the hardware system architechture block diagram and software system arcitechture block diagram are presented.The fourth chapter mainly focuses on hardware design and implementation. This chapter discusses the choosing of microprocessor, the design of the memory system, the design of man-machine interface and design of data gathering interface..The fifth chapter demostrates how to design and implement software system. The software architeture design pattern is discussed. This chapter shows how to drive the hardware, how to transplant the μC/OS-II,the embedded GUI and embedded TCP/IP stack to the target platform. At the end of the fifth chapter a application model is given.The sixth chapter points out the problems of current work and the future research.The senventh chapter summes up the whole work, points out the specific work 1 have undertaken, and indicates the innovative aspects of our research.
