The General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a new nonvoice value added service that allows information to be sent and received across a mobile telephone network. It supplements today's Circuit Switched Data and Short Message Service. GPRS wireless data terminal provides users with transparent data transmission, which mainly focuses on remote control business, such as automation of electric power system, environment protection, government public service, intelligence traffic, energy sources and industry. Under such background, this paper selects the design and realization of GPRS wireless data terminal as the main research direction, what it boils down to: 1. This paper introduces the characteristic and application of GPRS, and on the bases, explains the faction, hardware model of the GPRS wireless data terminal. 2. This paper analyses working mechanism and performance characteristics of Nut/OS, a kind of embedded real-time OS based on Non-Preemptive Kernel System Structure, which contains the structure of kernel, scheduling management, time management and so on. 3. This paper studies the embedded TCP/IP technology, introduces the TCP/IP layer structure model in the component of the Nut/Net as well as technical characteristics of each layer, analyses the GF of network data process using the TCP/IP, addresses what kind of design elements should be taken into account to realize the function of TCP/IP in the embedded systems when the resources are limited, and meanwhile summarizes the PPP of the data link layer as well. 4. To aim at the GPRS wireless data terminal application's characters, this paper designs the application software and realizes the transparent data transmission.
