The Application Of Data Warehouse And Data Mining In Information System Of Hospital

With the fast development of information technology, hospitals have established their own information systems. And the scale of database has been continuously extending and the complexity been dramatically increasing since the day the system was built. Under this circumstance, to select the right information from a mass of data for the hospital's decision-making is of utter importance.These days the traditional technique, namely On-line Transaction Processing (OLTP), is the primary way to realize the Hospital mformation System (HIS). Although a lot of data can be acquired by this way, few of them are useful for making decisions. What's more, in terms of utilization and management, it causes the confusion between historical data and current data and the conflict between operation data and analysis data. To solve this problem, the technology of Data Warehouse (DW) emerges as the times require.Compared with other hospitals, Beijing Cancer Hospital has its own particularity, adopting different methods in treatments. For this reason, it has some specific requirements on the statistic, analysis and management of information. This paper takes the data warehouse of Beijing Cancer Hospital, which is being established, as an example to introduce: firstly, the origin of Data Warehouse (DW) and Data Mining (DM) in the application subjects of the cancer hospital; Secondly, the fundamental concept of DW and DM, the method and arithmetic of DM, and the difference among DM, OLAP and DSS; lastly, the entire course about how the warehouse was established and used, including the basic concept of HIS, the historical method of analyzing data , the problems involved in the management of information, the structure design of the warehouse, data preparation during the establishing period, the framework and storage of the DW, design of dimensionality and granularity, abstracting and confirming subjects, building multidimensional data model and analyzing multidimensional data, the main function of DW and DM and some practical uses in hospitals.
