With the prompt development of optical networks in the modern communications inChina, the communication networks turn more and more complicated that it is difficult toadministrate and maintain, at the same time, the administrating departments urgently lookfor a scientific way to automatically, on-line and real-timely monitor and administrate thecommunication networks. It is very important to research and develop a high-functionalmetropolitan area networks optical communication automatically protecting system. Thearchitecture, composition and principle of metropolitan area networks opticalcommunication automatically protecting systems are discussed, the research about how toaccomplish this system with the MCS-51 Single Chip Microcomputer as the core controlleris also introduced. studies on these aspects are discussed as following: Firstly, after explaining the principle of optical communication and the structure ofmetropolitan area networks optical communication, the reasonable protecting project isgiven for the metropolitan area network optical communication, an appropriate controlframe with "upper-middle-lower" processors in three layers is applied to the metropolitanarea networks optical automatically protecting system, all of them are discussed in detail. Secondly, according to the characteristic of optical communication and route protectingsystem, a reasonable hardware design used MCS-51 Single Chip Microcomputer as thecore controller for the protect of communication routes is given. The modularized hardwareinclude: the control circuit for optical switchers, the signal processing circuit foramplificatory multiple, communication circuit, the hardware of the monitoring station andthe remote control center are introduced briefly, too. Later, method of realizing the MCS-51 modularized assembly programming design inthe monitoring station is introduced in detail, the method of signal processing and themethod of monitor and control for communication routes are introduced in the program.The characteristic of three layer multi-points control in the communication system isemphasized. At the same time, monitor and control program of the PC in the upper layerand middle layer based on Visual c++6.0 is also given briefly in this paper. Finally, the hardware testing, software debugging and experiment are introduced.Results of the experiment indicate that the control system designed is reliable and satisfiesall demands.
