With the rapid development of digital video technology, video monitor is used moreand more in our daily lives. Digital video monitor based on embedded system has appliedto many fields such as security defense, traffic and factories for its characteristics ofportability and agility. As these systems, they are not flexible because they work on thespecific chip. This paper proposes that digital video monitor is based on general DSP andthe coding output of the last part in the digital video monitor is introduced mainly. The high-performance TMS320C6711 of TI is chose as the development platform inthis paper. The designs in hardware and software are analyzed separately. In the part ofhardware design, it includes frame buffer, CPLD, encoder and so on. On the other hand, thesoftware simulation of I2C controlling, timing controlling on VHDL and data transmissionthrough EDMA channel consist in the part of software design. In addition, the CCIR601and the CCIR656 of digital coding standards for television studios are discussedimportantly here. In this paper, the designs of the video output periphery circuit and the whole PCB areachieved. In this system, the timing controlling on VHDL and the I2C controlling aredebugged successfully and it can display a static video image. It is the high performance of data processing that the video monitor based on DSP canaccomplish many image manipulations such as encoding, decoding and image recognition,so it is more flexible.
