With the advent of information age and spring-out of new media, mass media increasingly become an indispensable part of our life. It is by mass media that the elite group exerts a profound influence on our value-orientation and moral standard, and it is by the supervision of public opinion formed by mass media that audiences enforce their rights of political participation and discussion. At the times of democracy and freedom growing into the focus of social political life, how the government retains the social stability and progress by controlling mass media? And how the mainstream media and media elite exercise an influence on audiences and superintend the government? What the abuse of media power results in raises such a dilemma how to superintend mass media conversely while it plays the role of supervisor? All these put an even more critical challenge and request for democratic political life of new age to cope with the relationship of mass media and politics. Based on this serious and realistic problem, this article has an tentative exploration in four aspects: the political background and influence of mass media, the political function analysis of mass media, the interaction between mass media and politics, the abuse and control of the media power.By exploring the interaction between mass media and social politics, this article focuses on how mass media as a two-side sword between audiences and elite group, retain relative independence while promoting their own development and progress with splendid glamour by making avail of their own advantages. Furthermore, this article puts forward a primary control pattern of increasingly serious rent and abuse of media power.
